The Philosophy students from the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) joined the 32nd Confucian Night held last October 3, 2020 with the theme “Confucianism and Beyond”streamed through Facebook Live.
The event tackled the topics “Dong Zhongshu and Han Confucianism” and “Li as Ziran in Analects: Spontaneity in the Ritualized Self”. The said topics were discussed by Dr. Mark Kevin S. Cabural from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong and Dr. Abigail L. Tan from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
“I discovered that what I and my Ignacian Marian cohorts in Philosophy knew about these learned men was only scratching the surface. It was like a new world opened before us, and it made me hungry to know everything” said Josh Bryan M. Ramos, a 2nd-year Philosophy student from UIC.
Confucian nights are held yearly by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Santo Tomas. Due to the pandemic, a physical event is not possible, and instead, was conducted online.
